I've been noticing a rattling sound when the truck starts up in the morning. The rattle only happens when its idling and I give it a little gas. Once the truck warms up the rattle disappears. I can't tell if its the cat or something in the engine. The truck is a 02 3.9.
Any ideas out there.

Thanks

I think I might have the same noise as you do, except mine happens all the time while idling, it sounds pretty bad. It does sound like it is coming from the cat though, there are really only two things it could be coming from in the area I hear it, the cat or the transmission. I don't know what it could be in the tranny, so I hope it's just the cat. It sounds like a metallic rattle though.

I have a 99 5.2 and in 2002 right after I bought it the cat was making that exact noise and I had it replaced under warranty. It sounds like that is your problem judging on the number of years it took for mine to need replaced and the age of your truck.
