He does a nice job of looking at major manufacturers of filters. He may have some info on the website regarding which filter maker handles WalMart's inventory.

Message: Super Tech oil used to be supplied by Ashland/Valvoline. They also supply NAPA with their house brand oils.
But, reports are as of a few months ago, Exxon/Mobil now supplies Wal-Mart's Super Tech brand oil. Both dino and Synthetic.
This is a bit harder to verify, as you can't just open the bottle and look like you can do with the filter.

Yep, that's the problem. Ask Dontre on the Off Topic Forum, everything is being outsourced these days. I bet the WalMart filter will be Made in China by the time you read this during your lunch break!
Heck, I just read Consumer Reports. The lablels on the t-shirts in WalMart that say USA Made, well they are Made in China. USA Made is the NAME of the company ......... not where they are made. They are Made in China.
Oh yes, if supertech filters are now made by ExxonMobil then be careful using them. They are very restrictive because mobil1 is thin. I know because I teach auto mechanics at a Jr. High School so don't flame me.

I also use Mobil 1, in my 01 quad, with a 4.7, 5spd manual.
Pressure always stays at least 1/2 on the gauge even at idle.
~57,000 miles, no sludge, etc.
oh yea, change it every 5-7,000 miles

Oil Filter Manufacturers
From what I can gather, here is what is out there:
Honeywell - makes Fram (In Canada the Quaker State filters are Fram filters / In the USA, QS is Purolator), Pennzoil, Quaker State
Arvin Meritor - makes Purolator Premium Plus, PureONE, Ford OEM, V-1 & SureFlow (Superflow?)
Dana - makes Wix and Napa Gold/Silver, AC Delco DuraGuards for Canada
Baldwin (Parent of Hastings) - Baldwin, Hastings, Amsoil, Casite, maybe others
Champion Labs - Mobil 1, K&N, SuperTech, AC Delco DuraGuards (two different types) for USA, Bosch Premium, STP, Ultraguard Gold, Deutch & Luberfiner
Cummins Engine - owns Fleetguard
Mann - a top quality German filter maker (for our many German Friends on this site)

However, be careful useing Walmart SuperTech Oil ...
Walmart SuperTech Oil was (and may still be) a Group III hydrocracked base oil,
... not PAO based 100% Synthetic --- Group IV/V.
Who makes it? There were actually two answers:
In the U.S. -- it was Quaker State ... (actually a
subsidiary of the "old" Quaker State Company)
In Canada it was made by PetroCanada using
Chevron's hydrocracking technology.
If you are telling me it is now made by ExxonMobil, maybe so ... it's been a while since I checked.

KingKota,
You did not "find" anything. That test has been discussed here many times if you do a search.
If you think your post is an Amsoil Flame, please read the fine print and see that they changed the testing procedures 1/2 way thru the test.

| Flawed mobil1 vs. Amsoil Test Amzoil Ams Oil IP: Logged
Message:
KingKota,
Since you believe the amateur test has validity, I will add my comments so that you know what you are reading on the link you provided.
1) They are using the wrong Amsoil for that particular engine. As I have said before, not all oils are the same, even from the same company ... different formulations of base oils and additives.
__________________________________________________
2) My initial concern was the dramatic fall in Amsoil's TBN #'s.
SPECIAL NOTE .....
*** The flaw is the report is that they changed the TBN testing method ***
Here are some of Mobil1's TBN #'s using both the old meathod and new meathod:
Mobil1's TBN #'s
(old method) _ 7.5 _ 3.0 _ 5.0 _ 5.0 _ 4.0 _ 6.5
(new method) _ 2.5 _ 2.5 _ 2.4 _ 2.4 _ 1.9 _ 3.3
Therefore, it is evident that the new TBN testing meathod is giving a flawed report. Now you can see that Amsoil's low TBN #'s mean nothing ... because when comparing apples to apples, the TBN #'s between the two oils are similar.
For the record: My latest oil analysis (using the same oil) showed my TBN to be 6.5 after 6000 miles/six months of Severe City Driving --- so that is why I question their TBN results. My office associate ran this same Amsoil 5w-30 for 12,000 miles/1 year in his Durango and the TBN was 7.2, ... during the winter months.
__________________________________________________
3) Concerns about oil thickening ...
Amsoil Synthetic Oils will increase in viscocity slightly as the mileage increases -- as with many quality synthetics. To date, Amsoil has thickened from 66.2 to 71.6, and this is an increase of 8% and is well within the 20% +/- viscosity guidelines. Amsoil is now a low "40 wt." which does not concern me at all.
All oils will either thicken or thin over time.
Redline thins a lot and some Mobil1 oils thin slightly.
It is better to have an oil that thickens than thins.

Do you have any comments beyond simply posting a link with no follow-up discussion?
__________________________________________________
Now ... look closely at the test results --- the difference in wear rates between Amsoil and Mobil1 is statistically significant, with Amsoil showing significantly less valvetrain and piston/cylinder wear. Note the improved protection with regards to piston scuffing, with an Aluminum level of only 2 using Amsoil, vs. an Aluminum level of 5 for Mobil1. Iron levels are also significantly lower with Amsoil vs. Mobil1.
IMHO, Amsoil offers better protection to the valvetrain, pistons, cylinders, bearings, etc.

Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to once again comment on a flawed amateur test.

I've just seen that link posted here a dozen times, by certain individuals in an attempt to flame me and Amsoil, ... certain individuals that don't even know how to interpret a UOA (Used Oil Analysis). I hope that my interpretation was helpful.

Message: Being that I'm still somewhat new to the site, I haven't seen that link before. Anyway, back to the original ( somewhat) subject...some recently contacted information sources said that the provider for Wally's oil varies depending on the area of the country you're in. Like you said Steve, Quaker State seems to be the most common provider. Just for curiosity's sake, I wish I knew more about the additives package that determines the overall quality of the oil, I.E. if the quality is less than the makers branded oil, or if they just buy the good stuff in quantity and repackage. Bottom line is that it's OK oil if one does the standard change interval...that is, according to some of the threads I've searched and a couple of Wal-Mart techs
