I have an '01 CC 4x4 4.7, and I've been hearing about the crappy life of the brakes. I'm wondering if it would be more effective to upgrade the front brakes to larger rotors and better calipers or to simply retrofit rear discs on the back? What is the difference in price and effectiveness? Will the new OEM rear discs be an easy install? Who makes the best front brake upgrade for the '01 Dak? I also want to have wheels no larger than the stock 16"s.

I have almost 60K miles on my stock '01 brakes. They are still working as well as they did when first broken in. I've checked the discs, and the run out is well within specs.

I think you har more about "crappy" brakes, because those that have problems are more vocal than those that do not.

That being said, I think there is definatly room for improvement. Try swapping to a better brake pad, lake Performance Friction carbon fiber pads. I keep saying I'm going to do that, but somehow never managed to get it done.

There was a recent post from someone who had upgraded to 03 front disks on an 01 by using everything from the spindles out. Apparently these are 1 inch larger diameter. Everything I read leads me to believe you are better off having better front disks than adding disks to the rear.

I am planning to buy all new rotors, and then buy the cheapest pads you can get. They say they grab faster and better, which will reduce the heat when braking.
