I need help deciding on wich turck is better out of : Dodge dakota, Ford Ranger, Chevy S-10, Toyota tacomas, or Nissan pickups. I really like the style of the dodge dakota but I have "herd" that dodge trucks have had alot of trouble in the past but I dont know if that is on the older modles or not.

I had originally looked at the Dakota, T100, Tacoma, S-10, and Ranger when I was purchasing my truck.

The Dakota has the most room (even on the ClubCab), the best frame, and best looks of them all. I wasn't partial and almost grabbed the S-10 until I put my kids in the back seat...no room...even for a 6 year old!

They don't have as many problems as one would think and they've been pretty reliable for most as well.

Just remember, it's also the only Mid-Size that offers a V8...the Tundra is a Full-Size. As for the Nissan....BAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA...it's a Supercharged Slug. (And that's not only my opinon but the general opinion of most of the magazine editors who've tested them.)

I have a 95 Dakota that is very reliable. 79,000 miles and the only thing that has worn out (besides normal stuff like brakes and belts) was the pads on the shift fork inside the transfer case. That was due to lots of hard 4x4 use in the snow.

Nothing on your list offers the power and size of the Dakota. I have had a S-10 and a Toyota 4x4, Dakota is the best by far.

I have the 00 Dak. I came from having a 93 Nissan and I have to say the Dakota was the way to go. I was going to look at others but settled on the dak for a few reasons. I also heard a lot about problems with them. So I did some internet leg work looking for any problems I could find for that yr, and also what other people thought. If your unsure look up each model and then do a test drive. I've had my truck since last june and love it. The only problems have been a recall and some oil foam other than that I am very happy with the truck. And a friend of mine that baught a F150 a few yrs ago after only riding in my truck now says he should have went with the didge like he orgianly wanted. From a first time new car buying I rate the Dakota awesome. And if your lucky like me I got it from a really good dealer.

I was considering the F-150 or F-250 as well as a Dakota, when I bought mine. Found I'd either have to get an old F-250 (which is what I was driving at the time) or I could get an F-150. Well, I like a standard tranny. If I got the F-150 with a five speed, I would would have to settle for their 4.6 with 210 hp. That was too little engine for too much truck. I love my Dakota. It has the profile and nimbleness of the small trucks with more space and more power. It has the power of the big trucks with less weight in a sportier, easier to handle package. I did have brake rotor problems, but the good points have, by far, outweighed that problem. Plus, I have had the truck about a year and I still have to do a double take when I see it at certain angles.

By the way. I don't know much about the prices of the other trucks you mentioned. I do know, that the Toyota Tacoma is very pricey. The Dakota will should either meet or beat the price and still give you more truck. When I was looking about a year ago, I could buy a fully loaded Dakota Club 4X4 4.7 with every option, including 4wheel ABS and power seats for about 26-27K before dealing. A nicely equiped Dakota was going for about 23k before dealing. I bought used.
