Message: Or is the actual tire the person has that makes them take them off? Like if they are riding on nice low profile sport tires, not good on ice and snow etc. They take the whole rim and tire off just out of ease? Thanks again.

Message: You are right on both, try to find a winter tire to fit those dubs, even if you could it is a lot easier to change the whole set over.

Message: Ok, so no worry about the winter conditions wrecking the crome on the rims? That's biggest concern, i don't mind paying someone twice a year to change my tires etc.

Message: Winter salt can pit and corrode the chrome. Chrome is pretty tough stuff, but not invincable. If I lived in Canada - or NY, MT, WY, etc - where snow, ice, and salt are a problem, I would have two sets of wheels and tires. One nice chrome set with some good road/touring tires. And one factory set with M/S, or mud tires on them.
When I lived in NY that's exactly what I did with my cars, but only the drive axle.

Message: Try to take them off in the winter. We do here(ND). The salt/sand they put on the roads in the winter here wreack havoc on those nice wheels. I have seen some that have left their wheels on all winter and they are pitted and correded. But I have seen some that are not...but they were also cleaning there wheels pretty much daily.

Message: If you have no choice but to keep your chromes on all winter, I suggest you do the following to keep em looking good.
1. If you live in a salt area, heavy winters and so on. I suggest that you take your truck to the quarter carwash every weekend and rinse those rims completely.
2. After you power wash them, dry them off as best as you can, and then spray them down with WD-40, or Sili-Kroil. Being careful not to spray your rotors with it. This will make them water resistant for a while, but it will colloect salt dust and road dust. However, despite collecting this debris, it will not be able to damage your rims.
3. Use chrome polish whenever you get the chance to clean them. Making sure that they are clean first and dry. Chrome polish can help protect and keep the pitting away. However nothing can save the surface of any material driving down a road at 50 mph with salt bits sandblasting them away.
4. Buy a nice snow tire/winter tire with steel rims. Standard black steel rims will save you hundreds of dollars in the end. Rims look good in good weather, they look stupid on a truck covered in salt and slush.
Just a thought...
