found a great article/column at mercurynews.com about the writer's evening at the track with his son.
funny, entertaining, the feel-good column of the summer! two thumbs up!

you may need to log in, so use these:

read it!

so go to the track if you want to race, city streets are for driving, not racing.

Mark purdy, Hit it on the nailhead.
I have always had some sort of a hot machine besides the family daly driver.
My son and two girls loved it when I took them to the drags.
Back in the 70's I had a Sunbeam Tiger Instead of the factory ford 260 v8 I had a ford boss 302 rated at 448 HP@ 7100 rpm. My youngest girl clikked off the best time that car ever seen 11:12 ET. Best I could ever do was 11:62
The point is when your kids get into their teens is when you must find something in common as to maintain the bond.
The very best advise this pushing 60 Y/O man can give to younger men is get involved and stay involved with your teens!

Love to drag, but I hate! Hate! bracket racing. For me its all about who builds the fastest car and who can ge the best Reaction Time! my best is R.T. is a 5.3 Or in new NHRA terms it would be a 0.3! Then a lost to the 69SS with the blower next to me. Oh well Its all fun as long as you don't take your self to to serious. Theres always gonna be someone thats just a little bit faster than you!

Great article. I especially liked the lady who's station wagon beat a kids sports car. Would like to see the look on the kids face. I use to have a pretty heavy modified Grand Prix I use to take to the tracks and I did real well with it. Beat mustangs and imports without a problem, but a vette blew my socks off. But just the thrill of taking it on was fun enough. Sold it a couple years ago, haven't been to the tracks since. That article definitely makes me miss it.

Keep it on the tracks, off the streets!
