Subject: Fans quitting, A/C connection problem? IP: Logged
Message: At first, my fans stopped, wouldn't blow. I thought it was the #13 blade fuse, but none of the other components on that fuse (dash lights) are non-functioning. Replaced the fuse with a 30amp, fans came back on. NOW, they will come on, but stop for a bit, then come on a couple seconds later.. then sometimes they'll stop, etc.
This has happened to me a couple times, now. Once was about 40K miles ago and I took it into the dealer to have it looked at.
THEY said it was a faulty control problem, that the control burnt out, whatever. Since it's been in, the 3rd highest setting hasn't worked, but whatever..
I've checked the grounds in the engine bay, thinking something might be loose. I still think a wire is loose somewhere, but it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I took off the dash, the fan control panel wiring looks fine.
Any way to fix this without replacing the entire control unit? That thing isn't easy to take apart. Also, I haven't been able to locate the part # for it.
Thanks, guys.

Message: 1) Put the right fuse back in-you're going to fry the harness if you overload it.
2) You keep referring to a "fan". Are you speaking of the blower in the evaporator case?
3) If the answer to 2) is "yes", you either have a bad blower switch or resistor block. Considering the year model, control head total failure is very unlikely as there was nothing close to automatic temperature control back then. With the problem being intermittent I would lean towards the resistor block first.

Message: Resistor ' block ' on passenger side of firewall
under hood .
Check connector to it , clean up as necessary
may need to replace the connector if burnt.
Two screws hold the Resistor Block to
firewall - remove and inspect - may need replaced
