Subject: overhead console question again?? IP: Logged
Message: have read all posts for hours on this subject and am looking for a complete solid answer. I have a 2003 dakota with CLIP overhead console. I have ordered an OTIS off of ebay which will arrive next week. I am looking for specific step-by-step instructions that are simple and plain that my dog would be able to install it. Thanks for any help I could receive in this issue. Have a great day everyone.

Message: I've done it on my 01, and I could tell ya,
But, then, I'd have to kill ya! J/K
If you've searched the old posts, then you've seen mine, and others posts, about how to do it, for free. Except the cost of the o/h puter.
ON my 01, the puter has three wires.
a 12v, a ground, and a PCI bus.
Trust me on this one, DON'T use any of the wires up there, it's not necessary.
IN short, run the three wires under the o/h liner, down the A piller, and to the fuse box. the 12v splices into the dashboard lights, the ground goes on a grounded bolt, and the PCI bus goes under the front of the dash, spiced to the PCI bus wire in the communications port.
If you understand what I just said, then good. If not, let me know via e-mail, as I had to learn about it myself, IT'S EASY!

Message: what about the lights that are in the existing o/h console i have. they have a small 3 wire connector or does that just go into the new one and there are 3 more wires just from the mini computer itself. thanks for the info texastodd, you've been the most informative one on this subject throughout the hours i've spent researching this.

Message: Zen,
Thanks for the comp.
I've done this on my 01 Quad Cab. In my research, and e-mailing others who knew about electoronics more than I, found that, some of the wires in the o/h have a dual function, as a ground, or power wire on a timer.
Trust me, it's EASIER, and you won't screw anything up if you just run the three wires in the manner I described.
The funny thing, is that when people asked the stealers about wiring it up afterwards, they usually said it would be over $500!
I did it, without going to a junk yard, for free, and without fabbing my own wire harness, etc. I couldn't believe how simple it was.
What makes it easy, is our digital world, and the PCI bus wire. Don't miss the bus!

Message: i just tried hooking it up todd, i have 4 wires on mine. pink- i believe 12v, black-ground, blue-dimmer, violet-pci bus. i spliced pci into pci on datalink communicator. i spliced blue into panel dimmer on fuse box, pink to pink on existing overhead lights, and ground to ground. funny thing. i only have power if i turn on my lights?? i screwed up. i think i will take that wire and run to my cigarette lighter. also all i got was compass, nothing else. no temperature even and i have a thermostat at front already hooked up. all dashes for everything else. any info would help me.

Message: zen,
Aparently, they're always changing the wiring to these things! If you get nothing, sounds like the PCI bus isn't connected. MIne had three wires, I hooked the 12v, to the instrument panel in the fuse box. It works when the lights are off too. Go figure!
I think the compass feature is internal to the unit.
