Hi all...

I have an '05 Dakota and am looking to hook up a brake controller in the cab. There was no hitch on the truck so I installed both the factory hitch and wiring harness with both 7 and 4 pin connectors. I ran the harness up to the front and hooked up all that they said to hook up but I'm at a loss for where the brake (blue) controller wire is to go. I have the controller wiring plug in the cab but am I to hook the blue wire up to something in the engine compartment that's hooked to that plug or do I have to run that blue wire through the firewall and hook it up inside. That seems counter-intuitive to the way the rest of the install was set up. Thoughts?

If you are to stupid to wire up the harness and brake controller, what makes you think that you will have the mental capacity to pull a trailer. You people are stupid. All of you should just go bury your heads in the sand.

That isn't TexasTodd, It's someone else spoofing him - best ignored. Trucks with the factory tow package have the blue wire under the dash on the driver's side to tie into. It ties into the brake controler itself.

Thanks, Kowalski, for the answer... I'm going to poke around there as soon as it warms up here outside but just to clarify, you're saying the blue wire has to somehow be routed under the dash and hook up to the controller plug? It doesn't hook to any harnesses under the hood or in the fender that are hooked up to that controller plug already?

Not 100% sure, it was 8 years ago when I hooked mine up; and with the factory tow package already in the truck it was very simple - between the directions that came with the tow package and those that came with the controler. No idea where those directions are any more. Do you have the brake controler too ?

I would like to jump into this forum if thats ok? I'm currently trying to wire up my 03 Dakota QC for a trailer. Bought a 7 pin harness from the dealership and have it all hooked up. Only problem I have now is running the brake controller wiring. I have the factory harness (found in my glove box) but I have no where to plug it into under the dash. Does this make any sense?
Was hoping to just plug in controller and be done with the wiring.
My truck does not have the tow package.
Thanks if anyone can give me some advice.

Maybe the far left side under the dash, above the parking brake. Thats where my controler seems to plug in, but as I mentioned earlier this was too long ago for good recolection. Hope this helps, or maybe someone else can be more helpful ?

Hi guys, I ran into a snag hooking up a 7 pin connector on my son-in-laws 2005 Dakota. Got everything working except hooking the wire from the controller to the brake switch. There are about 7 or 8 wires coming off of the switch. Anybody know what color wire it is that I splice into ? His truck didn't come with the trailer towing package, so no easy plug in here. Thanks in advance. Nigel

See, you are obviously to stupid to do the job. Just get in your truck and go drive off the nearest cliff and die. You are too stupid to pull a trailer without killing innocent people.

Just bought a used '03 Sport. came with the 7 pin factory ( I think ).
after reading through these posts, I'm wondering...
1) does anyone know what the current capacity is for the Aux 12V circuit?

2) how can I tell if my installation has the relay for the trailer running lights? I have 11 running lights on my camper, plus LED tail/turn lights.

I have a 2004 Dodge Ram. I just purchase an electric brake control, and a harness to plug into the female plug that is under the dash.

Well, my truck came with the female plug, but how do I attach the 6 pole/4 pole trailer plug to the truck. All I see is 4 pole connections. Is there a plug or wire for the blue (electric brake) wire somewhere around the back bumber? Or do I need to run one. Don't really want to do a butcher job, thought that it might be there.

The 6 and 4 pole adapter was suppose to be for the dodge truck, but no way to connect the 2 remaining wires (one blue and one red) that I could find

Thanks for your help.

I HAVE A 03 DAKOTA. I FOUND UNDER MY FACTORY JACK-TOOL PACK, A WIRING HARNESS,WITH INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO HOOK IT ALL UP. THIS MADE THE JOB SIMPLE. THERE IS A BLUE FEMALE PLUG UNDER THE DASH, LEFT OF THE STEERING COLUMN, ABOUT HALF WAY BETWEEN THE FLOOR AND THE BEGINNING OF THE BOTTOM OF THE DASH. YOU PLUG THE HARNESS FOUND UNDER YOUR FACTORY JACK -TOOL PACK, INTO THAT FACTORY FEMALE UNDER THE DASH AND THEN IT(HARNESS) HOOKS UP TO WHATEVER BRAKE CONTROLLER YOU BUY, THIS IS WHAT I DID AND IT ALL WORKS, NOT SURE BUT, THIS MAY ONLY BE FOUND IN A TOW PACK TRUCK.?
