Now think about those two statements for a minute. Particularly that "for a fact" part.

Message: after i purchased a K&N for my '02 4.7 I noticed the numbers on the stock filter were as good as the K&N. But i tried the K&N anyway. I didn't notice any difference even after I reset the comp. So now i vacuum my filter every oil change and change it every year.

Message: A guy did do an independant test of air filters on his Miata. In fact, it was posted on this board for sometime -- probably can still find it. In any case, the results were as expected - K&N flow more dirt, paper flows less but is more restrictive. If you don't plan to keep your truck for the long-haul it doesn't matter what you throw in there as long as the bugs stay out. I sleep better at night knowing I am filtering the air the best I can even at the expense of the proverbial 5hp, which like many others I can't feel. A high flow filter only comes in handy when you NEED high flow. I generally keep my RPM less than 2500.. any paper will flow enough air for that.
To each their own.

You are probably right...
Does anybody know which paper filter flows the best? I mean if I am going to go for better filtration, I might as well get the maximum benefit of both.

Message: 99bludak, look at the #'s for K&N, then look at the side of a factory filter for an '02 4.7 when you see the truth let me know..... My ass is not smart and I would never try to make it that way. If i did, it wouldn't let me keep my brain there lol

Message: Why is 2500 rpm hard to believe? I usually drive around at 1800 or so. 2500 is my high shifting point, though every once in a blue moon I do manage 3000rpm. I'm not trying to win any races... It's my truck, I want to take care of it!

Message: I was at what was essentially and independant lab. We made air filters for heavy duty trucks, all military applications and off-road equipment. We also did some niche automotive. We ran tests with representative dust (AC-fine) on K&Ns, and multiple brands of paper filters. The K&Ns are around 85-90% efficient and paper is 98-99% efficient. These tests were done to SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) specs. The K&Ns are slightly less restrictive, but how often are you at WOT anyway.
If you want more power at any cost, put a K&N in. If you want to keep your vehicle for the long haul, stick with paper.

Message: Does anybody have any flow numbers on these two filters, and which one do you think is better? I know both use the same 3 layer cotton guaze with oil, so has anybody used the air hog on their dakota yet? I put one on my wife's grand am gt and it seems to pull better.
