 Subject: 2000 V-8 engine code p-0171

Any help in figuring out what is causing this code to come in would be greatly appreciated. Some of the spark plugs have that black soot deposit and the tail pipes have the same build up. Not to mention that the gas mileage seems worse. Any ideas?

Sounds like an O2 sensor to me !
Computer is trying to compensate
causing " black soot and poor mileage "
