Subject: Replacing Rear Pinion Seal IP: Logged
Message: What is involved with replacing the pinion seal on a 9.25" diff? Do you need to drain the diff? At 46K miles, mine is starting to leak a little bit. Thanks for the help.

Message: I used to have a '87 4x4 Dakota, before my '97 one now. Anyway, on my old truck, my pinion seal was leaking, and me and my nieghbor fixed it in a matter of minutes, no big deal, I believe it had the 9.25 rear end also. Anyway, we didnt have to drain the diff. or anything, Just took off the u-loint, unbolted it, and pryed out the old seal, and tapped the new one into place, be careful when tappin the new one in, tap around the edges in a circular motion so u wont warp the new seal, hopefully yours will be just as easy to change out.
