Subject: A crackhead broke my rear vent window..
IP: Logged

Message:
Some assh*le crack-head went on a rampage last night and broke into every truck and van in this area. He broke the rear passenger vent window on my '91 Dodge Dakota extended cab and ripped off my toolbox (which was hidden, by the way).

I don't have comprehensive insurance, and I'm having a difficult time finding a place to simply buy a replacement window. I'd rather replace the window myself than spend $200+ for the service/installation racket that seems to dominate the auto glass industry.

Has anyone else been in this situation, and can anyone tell me where to find a place to buy a replacement window for self-installation?

Thanks much

Can you get one at a junkyard?

Junkyard !

Crack Monster broke the drivers side rear window of my club cab May 2003 and stole a $400 Eclipse radio and some li'l crap. Hit the junkyard a few hours later and got a replacement window for $70.

Li'l F'ker is in jail now on a 4+ year stint for burglary and drugs, they could never prove he broke into my truck so the states attorney never went after him for it. Seems like the prescription bottle of meds he took out of my truck and were found in his house the same night were not enough to prove his guilt (cops were there for domestic violence).

It's really infuriating. It makes me root for the continuation of the 'three strikes law'. There's a certain amount of creeps out there responsible for 100% of the crime, and I wish we'd throw the damned key away. This guy couldn't see *ANYTHING* of value in my truck from the outside. He broke through my window simply because it was a truck and he figured there may be tools in it.

I couldn't find a replacement window at any salvage yards out here, and the cheapest I could find was $140 for a new uninstalled window. It's tempting to try and fashion something out of plexi or vinyl so if it happens again I can easily replace it.

Call a junkyard and ask them if they'll do a junkyard search for one for you. They are all interconnected via internet and can usually find you your part at a yard in the state and for a small fee get it shipped within a day or so to them and you buy it from them.

for instance:
www.PartsHotlines.com
