Subject: What size Flow without loosing low end?
IP: Logged

Message:
I'm probably going to have a single in-out Flowmaster installed on my Dak tomorrow. Question is, what diameter in-out should I get that will allow me to keep the same back pressure so I don't loose low end torque? Also, how much quieter is a 50 series than a 40?

Thanks.

they have soundbytes you can listen to. and the stock muffler and pipes are 2.5's i think, so you should be able to go with 2.5 in/out as long as you keep it single exit. my 3.9 didn't lose anything and i had a 40 series 2.5 in/out on with stock pipes.

I put a Maremont on, rather than Flowmaster, but I went 2 3/4" in, 2 1/2" out. Gained power and about 1/2 mpg. Sounds throatier, too.

I am running a Flowmaster Delta 40 on my 00 CC. Single stock pipe in and dual 2 1/2" pipes out back. Noticed a difference right off PLUS had an ever so sweet sound.

Really noticed more of a difference when I went with a larger TB to accent the new exhaust.

Check out this article and the accompanying chart for information on choosing the appropriate sized exhaust for your engine. Don't confuse backpressure with exhaust scavenging. Reducing backpressure is desireable, but too big a tube will reduce the ability to pull exhaust out properly.

I bought the Midas Muffler Ravin 77. The suggested pipe diameter for the 3.9l was 3 in and 3 out (after the cat, which is 2.5). They fabbed an interface and put it on. Although it started out loud, after a week it mellowed down nicely and now it sound pretty darn good for a V6 (definitely not a v8). As for performance, I found that I got more overall torque. I run a 5 speed and can shred my poor tires in 1st and 2nd no problem at all, and even get a little bark going into 3rd if I really push it. AND I'm running the stock 3.21 gears!
