Message: Just wanted to whine about the air conditioner on my 2000 quad. I have had to have it recharged twice...with the second time requiring the replacement of the evaporator unit due to a detected dye leak. According to the labor book, it seems to be listed as an 8 hour job to replace since the dash has to be removed...yada, yada. Anyway, I now have stuck well over $850 in repairs on my air conditioning system alone...that hurts bad enough but here is what REALLY pisses me off....the dealer told me the reason for my troubles was directly caused by a factory screw-up. He said whoever put the evaporator in at the factory didn't "pump down" the system completely and evidently let moisture remain in the system. The service manager went on to say that moisture left in a system like this turns corosive over time and that is what caused my problems. There seemed to be no doubt in his mind. If the dealer is telling me this, shouldn't Dodge be somewhat responsible for some of the cost?!?! When I questioned the dealer about this, he just smiled and said "you would think so but it doesn't happen". I spent $850 on a problem that was (apparently) directly caused by poor workmanship at the factory and I guess I am stuck with it. Any suggestions? Thanks for listening, I had to whine to someone, my wife got tired of hearing about it on the way home.

Message: If I were you, I would ask to get the dealers statement in writing and present it to Daimler Chrysler and see what their response would be. It couldn't hurt to try.
