Subject: Remove/Replace Bedliner? IP: Logged
Message: Hi,
I have a 2001 quad cab with a drop-in bed liner. I want to remove the liner, clean under it, and replace the liner. I've done some looking around on the internet and this forum, and find that some people have done this.
I'd like to find out if this is a really hard job, or if it's something that can be done pretty easily. Does it require 2 people (I'm guessing it does).
Any risk of the liner breaking during the process?
If you've done this, have you noticed if the liner is looser after replacing it? Right now it doesn't move around at all, I don't want to mess that up.
I'm not looking to replace it with a spray liner, just clean beneath this one.
Thanks.

Message: it probably depends on the bedliner, but mine (made by custom) took me and my friend about five minutes to pull out. we went to the middle of one of the sides and we got on oppsite sides and pushed toward the middle of the bed. from there the rest of the side pulled out. then we pulled up that side and slide the other side out from under the rail.

Message: I've seen someone do it by themself by opening the tailgate, lifting in the middle at the end by the tailgate and pushing up and then pulling out, the thing just popped out all in one piece.

Message: I've got the mopar drop-in bedliner.
I took mine out and put it in by myself in a January snow flurry in Canada.(ie; you can do it yourself and you can't break it)
Ideally you'd want it to be warmer but it's not necessary.
To take it out. Open the tailgate.
Lift the center of the floor up and shove a 2x4 or 2x6 in as far as you can.(about 4 feet).
Lift the lumber up about 12-16 inches. This should allow you to pop out one of the sides.
Work your way towards the front and pull the liner towards the back to get it the rest of the way off.
To put back on .Raise the middle and get the front and corners in first.
Then slowly lower the center and pop the sides under the rails.
Don't be afraid to pull or punch with a bit of force to get the tough spots. It will not hurt the liner.
Mine fit as well before and after.

Message: I just lifted the middle and popped out the sides. Came out real easy. The bed was scraped all underneath, some parts down to bare metal. I got a rhino lining installed then. I love it.
