OK guys, any help here would be great. I can't get rid of my front brake noise(squeal) no matter what I do. Under light to medium braking the squeal is awful(hard braking has no problem) I've installed several different pads doesn't seem to matter, after a few weeks back to the noise again. I just purchased new (stock type) rotors and a set of HAWK pads. After 2 weeks I've got the noise again. This is driving me crazy. The truck is a 97CC 2WD with the 3.9. My other Dakota a 91 has never had this problem. I've got the same pads and same brand rotors on it. Thanks in advance for any advice.

One thing that I have always done that helps is to put grease on the back of the brake pads. The grease is tacky enough that it will help pull the pads away from the rotors when you let off the brakes. It also has a damping effect.

I also heard one guy says that he uses RTV to essentially glue the pads to the calipers. He said it is the best thing to stop squeeling.

Thanks,
I'll give the RTV a try.

They make several different types of anti-squeal that you can buy at any auto parts store. I like the spray. You spray it on the back of the pad just like you're spray painting it. It's kind of a rubbery paint. Used it on my Buick Regal that had a terrible squeal problem and it totally eliminated it. The problem with using grease is that it will wash off in time and RTV is too messy and takes too long to dry. The squeal is caused by your pads vibrating under light braking. When you stomp on the brakes, there is enough pressure that the pads can't vibrate. That's why you don't hear it then.

The brakes on my Dakota were squealing as well, while braking slowly and driving between 0-15 mph. Very loud and embarrassing. Replaced the calipers and the squeal is gone. Also got an alignment. There is a slight squeaking when I turn the wheel at slow speeds still. Plan to get that fixed as well.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm gonna get this thing under control one way or another this weekend. The spray on stuff sounds like the best way to go. I'll check my local parts store.

Thanks again,
Mike S.

yeah, it may be poor alignment, if your toe is off, it may be scrubbing enough to squeal..
dump those factory rotors, get some decent crossdrilled, or slotted rotors, and some ceramic pads, EBS pads are the best.
