i know how the shaker hood works in general, but how does it work in the rain? i dont know if it would have an affect on the throttlebody or anything...

The shaker hoods come with an air box. The air box houses the air filter. At the bottom of the box is a drain petcock.
The K&N filter that you should use with this hood is OK to get a little wet, but not too much.
When you are shopping for the hood, realize that water does not compress in a chamber and will do big damage. If there is no drain, move on.

This may sound stupid, but do you have to get an entirely new hood? Can't you just buy the shaker unit, and cut into the stock hood?

I have a shaker on my 99 RT. I try not to drive in the rain, mainly because of traction problems. But I've driven in some decent rain a couple times and haven't had any problems. I would imagine the only way you would have a problem would be if you poured a bucket of water right in the scoop with the engine running.
I would guess you could probably just cut a hole in your stock hood, but i don't know how well it would seal or look as good.

Explain water injection a lil better... I've heard of it, but I've also heard of hydrolocking too.
