Subject: More problems with my '01 R/T.... IP: Logged
Message: This will be about the 7th time that my truck has been in the shop and it's really starting to get old. When I first got it I took it in for a broken sway bar linkage then a few months later a sensor went out. Then after that my A/C starting leaking water inside the truck and I had to get my carpet replaced. The same sensor failed 2 more times in the past year so it had to be brought in twice for that as well. Last month I was having probs with my transmission so I took it in and they had to replace the valve body and fix a leak and to top it all off my A/C officially stopped working last week. I took it in today and they said that there was a serious leak and that it will cost $860 to repair! This is starting to get crazy. I was always one to stick up for Dodge, but I am beginning to think all those other people are right.

Message: What sensor failed? What A/C component is leaking? The water leaks are usually caused by the lack of a drain tube on the HVAC housing, usually a fairly cheap repair. Your truck is most likely not a lemon and may have had repeat failures due to poor repairs performed by the dealer. Look at your paperwork and post exactly what repairs were made.

You guys have to accept a certain amount of responsibility that your parents didn't teach you. The air conditioner drain hose drains downward. What if a bug from your trailer park decided to crawl up it? Is Dodge responsible. No! You whiners make me sick. Don’t lamb blast a good vehicle with your lack of maintenance on your own vehicle.

Message: First off I sure as hell don't live in a trailer park and second, I take great care of my truck. Don't speak on what you don't know. It makes you look like an ass. I know my truck inside and out and the problems that it has had so far shouldn't occur in a 2.5 year period, especially with the care that it gets.

Message: You're a genius. Wow. That problem has already been corrected and it wasn't the A/C hose being stopped up. Now my A/C currently does not blow cold air and I found out that I need a new accumulator and evaporator. That's definitely not due to "poor maintenance". It's due to faulty equipment.

What was the problem with the water? Was the drain hose off or loose? The reason for the accumulator being replaced is due to opening the system to replace the evaporator. I find it hard to believe the evaporator has a leak if only 3 years old. Usually it is a low or high pressure switch that leaks. Look for oil on both. Some DC AC person should be able to answer that. If it is the evaporator for sure, call DC and see if you can get them to cover it or maybe share the cost. Sh#t happens, goes bad or is defective, but don't blast Dodge. It happens to all of them.

Message: I think we all run the risk of getting a vehicle that was the last one off the line Friday night or the first one Monday morning. Assembly line workers too excited about soaking up that first beer or too hung over from all those beers over the weekend.
I was the unlucky reciepient of one of these lemon's with my wife's car, all body and interior stuff, no mechanical. I was lucky that I discovered all the f'ed stuff within a couple of days and the dealer swapped it out with another car that wasn't all screwed up. I guess I dodged a bullet with getting rid of that car ;-)
I can sympathize with ya, I would be kind of irate If I paid $20K for a vehicle and then had to start making major repairs before it was paid off. But on the other hand, I have about 130K on my 00 Dak without any major repairs outside the balljoints and brakes, so I kow they are good trucks. Must not have been your day when you bought the truck :(

Message: When I took it in for the leak 2 years ago they found out that there was never even a drain hose installed, so they installed one. And now I can't believe that I'm having these problems. It's going to cost me almost a $1000 dollars to fix something that shouldn't even have happened yet. I know I may be generalizing when I blame Dodge, but it's hard not to when I have taken my truck in 7 times already and a few of those were for the same things occuring again.
