Subject: 2001 5.9 rear brakes IP: Logged
Message: hello,
would someone be kind enough....too give me a summary on replacing rear shoes....i have only owned vehicles with four wheel disc brakes before,,so i am totally new too drum brakes.
any special tools ,,good pads???,,,how to recompress for fitment of newer thicker shoe????
any tips will help!!!!!!!!

Message: Do one side at a time. Simply remove and replace. Check every spring and fastner for wear, and replace as necessary.
Be sure and rebuild or replace the cylinders. If you don't, they are sure to leak.
At the bottom, theres a small screw adjuster. Crank it in to fit the the new shoes, and then adjust out as necessary.
Use a disc sander with about 220 grit to clean the inside of the drums.
