Subject: 4.7 DQC A/C Failure IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2001 4.7 DQC and recently my A/C took a dump.
My A/C fan is good - I pulled it out and checked it with a 12V power supply.
I've checked every single fuse and relay I could find - under the dash and under the hood.
I've tested the voltage at the A/C fan connector and there is 12.5 VDC there BUT NO GROUND.
I shorted the fan to ground and it started spinning.
I pulled my dash apart this evening and removed the environmental controls and gave them a quick visual check - no obvious component damage.
I can still change the vent settings and I can turn on the A/C compressor but the fan will not engage.
There is a temp sensor of some kind in the A/C ducting underneath the dash - it almost looks like an airflow sensor.
I shorted out 2 pins on the sensor's connector and my fan came on full blast and I could turn it on and off with the A/C switch.
ON and OFF - no adjusting the fan flow.
Full blast or nothing.
I'm leaning towards this airflow/temp sensor being bad but I wanted to check in here before I went to the dealer and started dishing my hard-earned funds.
Has anyone elses A/C unit behaved like this?

Message: This problem is known among Durango & Daks. The blower only working in the full blast position is a sign of the blower moter resistor failure. The resistor runs about 18 bucks. It is located under the cowl under the right wiper. About a half an hour job to replace. Hope this helps.

Message: Is the resistor block a dealer only item? I can't seem to find one for my '97 3.9L Dakota at any of the local part stores. My blower is intermittent. Once it blows for a few minutes on the M2 setting it ramps down. I have to move it to the high setting to get a volume of air equal to the M2 setting. Sometimes when I start the truck when it is warm/hot out the blower won't move ANY air for a few minutes.
