Subject: Manual Shift Knob IP: Logged
Message: Just traded in my 1/2 ton Ram for a 3.7, 4x4 club cab Dakota, and I'm lovin it. I want to change out the existing shift knob for something really cool like a TM Machine, Ram head shift knob. Crazy thing is I'm concerned about just twisting off the current knob and replacing it. Does anybody know what the thread size is? Are there any tricks I need to be aware off before continuing? Thanks

Message: The knob doesn't just twist off, you need to pry out the center piece with the gear pattern on it, remove a 15mm nut, then you can twist off the knob. I don't know the thread size sorry.
The chrome Skull I have on mine didn't thread on, there was a nylon sleeve then the knob slid over that then had a set screw which effectivly clamps it on.

Message: the nut does come out and you can reuse it.
I also put a chrome skull knob on mine.
I took the nut and rounded the corners on a grinder wheel then inserted into the skull shifter. I used the supplied allen nuts to secure the nut in the knob then threaded on.
(the nylon insert let the knob a little loose).
If you have a gadge you could easily check the thread size if needed. (it is fairly corse, not like a machine thread but more like a pipe thread.) nut was a little stubborn too. I was worried about bending the bar while removing mine.
take it slow and you will be golden.
