Message: I have this exact same problem in my 2004 Quad Cab Dakota, all tail lights and parking lights, backup lights etc work perfectly fine except the brake lights.
I pulled out my tail lights, switched the parking light wires to the brake terminals and the braking filament of the bulbs work fine. Disassembled the brake switch on the pedal and it looks to be working fine mechanically. so I checked for voltage and can't seem to get a reading for any of the terminals that connects to the brake switch.
Didn't see any fuses in the inside fuse box that were bad, and didn't see any fuses in the Power Distribution Center box under the hood that looked bad either.
I've been searching all over the net for answers on this, but mostly i find people who had problems with their turn signals.
If anybody could help us, or post a link for an existing solution/answer, it would be greatly appreciated

Message: Here is what it says in my Factory Service manual for my 1999 Dakota...
"The stop lamp switch has a 12 volt feed circuit
from the fuse block. Verify fuse is OK, then check the
feed from the fuse block to the switch. If the switch
has 12 volts depress the brake pedal and check for
voltage to the stop lamp circuit. If no voltage is
present the switch must be replaced. If the switch
does not have 12 volts from the fuse block check for
continuity between the fuse block the switch and
repair as necessary"
According to my 1999 Truck, the fuse is fuse number 1 in the "junction" block under the hood. It is a 20 amp fuse. I'm not sure but it might be one of those larger funny looking fuses with the clear top.
This is all with my 1999 Model truck though..
Good luck
