My 1992 dakota 5.2 liter 318cid is losing pressure while in gear and only when i'm stop. The motor is brand new with only 4,429 miles on it. Need suggestions I don't really want to say it is the oil pump yet. Help!!!

how much pressure is it losing?? what weight oil are you running?? It could still be within normal limits... as long at its around the midle to the lower 1/3 range it should be ok. with it in neutral give it some gas, (up to around 1,000 rpms) it should shoot up instantly to around the 40 mark.... my haynes book lists 6 psi MIN. at curb idle. and 40-80 at 3,000 rpms.

hope i helped

My local DC dealer mentioned that the oil pump is a common problem on the 3.9l. Not a real big issue to replace, just messy and time consuming.
