Subject: Water in Headlight IP: Logged
Message: One week ago I purchased my first Dodge vehicle. It was a "programmed" 2004 Dakota, Quadcab, 4.7L V8 with 11000 miles. I live in Mississippi and this past Sat. my wife drove it to Atlanta. She called this morning and said the right front headlight is about 1/2 full of water and the headlight doesnt come on. I told her to see if she can get it into a Dodge dealer to have it checked. Has anyone else had this problem or know how the rain water got inside the light?

Message: The K cars are notorious for this - bad gasketing. The bulb probably shattered from rainwater collecting and touching it.
Quick fix is to drill a small (1/16") hole at the bottom of the lens to keep it drained. Making the gasket watertight is difficult.

Message: Bob, Thanks for your reply. My wife just called back. She took the truck into, I believe she said Woodstock Chrysler,Jeep,Dodge dealer on Hwy 92, Woodstock, GA. She said they were really nice and said it must have a bad seal or something. She was told they didnt have a new one in stock but they went out and took one off a new Dakota and install it. (the complete assy.) She was there about 1 1/2 hours. It was all under warranty and no charge. I would like to say, it's really nice to have a dealer willing to help a "lady in distress" as these fine people did. They are to be complemented..
