Message: I'm thinking of purchasing a 2001 Dakota with 63,000 miles on it with a price tag of $13,500. Should I be concerned with the amount of mileage on it, or is this a fairly standard amount of miles. This car is from a dealer by the way. Also, since I don't know much about car repairs, what are some of the standard repairs that I will be looking at with this car.

Message: Sounds a little steep to me. They will probably come down significantly if you buy the extended warranty they will offer you, which might not be a bad idea considering the mileage. It's somewhat pricey, but the piece of mind might be worth it.

Message: Thank you for the input. I forgot to mention that this is a quad cab dakota SLT 4x2. Do you still think the price is steep?

Message: I wouldn't pay that much for an 01 Quad Cab 2wd with 63K miles on it. No way. Those are high miles for a Dakota. Is it a V8, don't get a V6.

Message: Kelly Blue Book is about $15,500.
Be sure and have the front suspension and transmission inspected by a qualified independant mechanic before signing anything.

Message: Ditto on .boB's post. Also have them look at the front brake rotors.

Message: How much it's worth is governed by a lot of variables, state, miles, mechanical and body condition. If you really want an accurate blue book go here http://www.kbb.com and go through the whole process of "booking" the truck. You will need to know the options, engine, accessory groups, etc to get an accurate quote.
I think 15,500 out of KBB for that truck is fairly close.
My 43,000 2001 CC 4x4 4.7L w/towing group, power everything and heavy duty package with tire/handling package booked out "Suggested Retail Value" at $19,500 "Private Party Value" was $16,440 and "Trade-In Value" was $14,650.
I remember when looking that the price difference between 4x2 and 4x4 versions of my truck were about $3000.
YMMV...
