Subject: Advice needed on buying 97 with 208k IP: Logged
Message: Hi guys. I just checked out a 97 Dodge Dakota with 208k miles, black/black for 3,000 bucks. I plan on using it as a second car for winters and towing. Its a 4x4 sport 5sp v6. Car was in great shape for the miles one owner, all the records including the window sticker. After going through it with my flashlight and creeper I noticed no leakage. Lot of rust but thats to be expected. It drove great tires were fine but had I had a couple questions.
Does the transmission normally whine a little around 30mph?
Do you guys think its worth buying if I can get it for 2800 bucks and its in as good of shape as I say it is? All it needs from what I can tell is brakes. Or do you think it something to stay clear of and look for another truck ?

Message: 208K is a lot of miles. I'de be pretty leery of that. Lots of parts just don't last that long. Manual transmissions do whine a bit.
