Message: I installed a full set of AM electrics in my Cobra project, including an electric speedometer. The gauges come with some excellent instructions. Take your time, read ALL the instructions, and follow them step by step. Electric gauges are really very simple to install.
For some reason, this question keeps coming up. Some folks say not to use a thread sealant on the sender. They say it interferes with the ground. However, if you read the instructions, it clearly tells you use sealant. I always do.
As for where to install the trans temp sender, that can be an issue. I would think the ideal place would be somewhere in the cooler line, after the cooler. You'de want to know what the oil temp is as close to the bands as possible. The easiest would be in the pan. But then you would be reading the temp of the oil after it's done it's job.

Message: thanks bob. isnt there a spot where i can hook up the trans temp electronically? because i see that my truck already has a trans temp warning light, so wouldnt there be a sensor monitoring the tranny temp already?

Message: The sensor is there, but I doubt it would match with the AM gauge. And you can't run two gauges off one sensor. So you need a seperate sensor for the computer (installed) and one for the gauge.
Like I said, ideally it should be in the feed line, after the cooler. But I would probably install it in the pan for simplicity, and then recognize that it will read a tad higher than what's being fed to the bands. Not a big deal as long as you understand how the oil flows, and what you're actually reading.

Message: ohh ok i get it, just got the gauges today in from summit. i think i will just install the tranny temp sensor after the cooler. i'm going to be putting in a tranny cooler as well actually, since my 02 3.9 auto didnt come with one, so i'll just have that hooked up when its all getting put in.
