Subject: Cap or Tonneau?

Hey all, just wanted anyone's opinion on this.
Got my dak (01 cc) a couple weeks ago, came with
a cap. Think I want a fiberglass tonneau, what are
some of the ups and downs of both? thanks

Also, will more than likely be selling the cap if
anyone is interested, it's black, great condition.

I have a Fiberglass tonneau cover by A.R.E. the LSII model, I love it.
Ups include style, slight fuel economy, and cargo security.
Downs will include, less cargo carying capacity, More surface area to clean and wax.(birds think its a great target)

I've never owned a cap, but I would guess they are mostly the same except for the cargo capacity being vastly greater with a cap.

Thats my 2cents

I had a cap on my old Ranger. I felt it made the truck more succeptible to strong crosswinds. It also lessened rearward visibility. Positives were I could slide stuff in there right under the cap that wouldn't have fit without removing the tonneau or leaving it tilted open. The nice part about the cab is the ability to fit bulkier, higher items without removing it. On the other hand, though I never took mine off, I'd imagine the cap is more difficult to remove and store when the need to take it off comes.

Personally, I prefer the looks and flexibility of some sort of tonneau to a cap. A white contractor's type cap just looks ugly and one of the smooth body color ones makes it look like too much of an SUV.

Just my 2 cents. I have a 99 R/T RC and have a cap and a fiberglass tonneau cover. It came with the tonneau but I bought the cap so I could haul the dogs in the winter time. Truck feels and handles alot better with the tonneau but has more traction in the rain with the cap due to the weight difference. The only thing I hate is storing one or the other in the garage and is a pain in the butt to change them back and forth. The cap is great for those to drunk to drive nights out. I have a bed rug and it makes for a comfy hangover shack if need be. IMO the tonneau cover looks alot better on the daks but the cap doesn't look bad when it's painted to match. (Mine is solar yellow) I hope this helps some. Enjoy the truck.

The annoying thing about a fiberglass lid is taking it off and on. Especially if you have to do it by yourself. Rest assured as soon as you put it on you'll need to take it off to fit large cargo.

I installed a roll-n-lock sliding cover on my 98 DAK and it's awesome. It sits flush with the bed of the truck and rolls back giving you full access to the entire bed. It has interlocking aluminum panels covered in vinyl. Pretty sturdy, able to support my weight if I lay on it.

Had it 5 years and the vinyl is slightly faded, but other than that it's held up through ice, hail, snow and more.

It's a little expensive, but it's worth it to not have to yank that lid off and on.

owned a cap(topper) about 6 years and couldn't do with out the covered storage. hunting gear for a week/fishing trips, hiking/camping,i've slept under a it few times, bikes, etc. and for the storage, i have 4 big hooks screwed into the ceiling in the garage and with nylon tie-down straps, it hangs close to where you would back the truck underneath. mine is about 7 ft. high. i got a soft cover with the truck, used it about 3 weeks...
