I was just curious to see what others out there are doing to protect your vehicle from theft. I thought a simple way to go was a steering column collar lock, but I dont seem to be able to find one on the internet for the Daks. Does anyone know a company that makes these for the the Daks? Is the next best option a kill switch? I'm interested to know!

I just pull the fuel pump fuse out of the fusebox (upper left side of dash visible only with door open) will stop all but the diehard car thief.

It's a thin, flat piece of flexible metal, comes in a spring-loaded spool like a tape measure. It's used by electricians to fasten electrical wire to, and pull through walls and ceilings and other blind spots. You "fish" the wire out.

racer x i think it is fuse # 12 double check the owners manuel in glove box lists the function of all fuses and ckt brkrs and relays lots of other good info in the book but very few people ever read it cover to cover. removing fuse stops the joy rider and slows down a thief who only wants to make a quick get away

Find the connector for the park/neutral/backup light switch on your tranny. The middle wire is the ground for the starter relay - cut it and insert your kill switch there. A smart thief will look under the dash and under the hood for wiring mods, but I doubt he'll start crawling around underneath the truck. Just make sure you hide the switch well (don't locate it where it can be easily felt or reached from the drivers seat).

Another thing, don't depend on just one security measure - use 2 or 3 things, eg. kill switch, AutoLok or Club, alarm, etc. The idea is to make it so much of a pain for the guy that he finally just bails.
BTW, I like the fuse-pulling trick.

six pak & 99dak, thanks for the tips!

Fortunately, in my part of Jersey here, not many Daks (or other pickups) being stolen. They really like to steal hondas though... and of course maxima headlights.
Anyway, I've just been throwing the ol' club on my steering wheel to discourage joy riders.
Back when I was in school (Newark, NJ) car theft was a HUGE problem. A lot of guys had kill switches (some had multiple ones) and others would just pull out the wire to the distibutor cap (I think). Problem was that some car thieves would get really po'd if they broke into a car and couldn't start it. They'd either trash the interior, smash the windshield, or p1ss on the seats. Best bet was Lojack (sp?)... you'd get the car back mostly intact.
