Subject: Storing Items under the Tonneau Cover
IP: Logged

Message:
I recently put a tonneau cover on my 03 Quad 4x4 and am looking for a design for storing the basics in the back. I would like to come up with something that keeps a box (store or home made) at the tailgate so that it is readily available by opening the tailgate. I have the typical mopar bed liner under an extang tonneau. I was thinking maybe a set of bungee's or net, but the only hooks near the rear of the truck are at the bottom next to the tailgate. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I used an old adjustable spring loaded shower curtain rod across the back and then put a piece of that non-skid material for counters down and used a 16"x24" rubbermaid type container. Keeps stuff in place and comes out quick and easy when need be. It's a cheap way to go and it works for keeping small stuff in place. There are ratchet cargo bars for across the back for about 30 bucks that would probably work better but I had the shower rod laying around.

On my 03 QC 4x4 I have a plastic storage box that you buy at walmart. It's black with a gray top and red latches (one on each side. I use two short bungee cords, one on each side to the hold downs. It hods it right at the back up against the tailgate. I can remove the lid and get stuff out without unhooking it or opening my cover. I store a hitch, gloves, first aid kit, flashlight, jumper cables, etc, in it. Works very well..

The Dakota has slots in the sides of the bed so you can put a devider board in there. I use a 2x4. That holds a plastic storage box near the tailgate. A simple rubber bed mat keeps things from moving around too much. If I'm off road, I run a simple cargo strap across the top.

Bed extender serves this purpose for me, Traps cargo close to the tailgate and has helped me safely carry items clost to 7 feet long quite a few times.

Bob, you said the there are slots in the side of the bed so that you can but a divider board in. Is this the slots in the bed liner over the wheel wells? That is the only place that I see any where in the stock bed liner with a spot large enough for a 2x4.
