Subject: 2.2 & 2.5 Engine Questions IP: Logged
Message: Does anyone know where I can find a aftermarket intake for the 2.2/2.5 head? I could also use any and all help with building a good strong engine for a .349 almost flat oval, running a standard manual trans, with a .410 welded rear end. Anyone?

Message: I think you might want to check out the off topic board for that one. The 2.2 sound like an older 4 cly made by Chrysler years ago.

Message: No morron Chrysler no longer makes a 2.2 or a 2.5. when your finaly at age to drive just ask for a 2.0 for your Neon or what ever you want.

Message: No doubt. If you are talking about the FWD 2.2/2.5 it was MitsuBitchi made.
The NEON is a 2.0 totally different!

Message: Correction, the 2.2/2.5's (early to late 80's)were assembled at the Trenton engine plant in NJ, same as the fabled 440. There was a newer 2.2 they put in the Avenger/Talon a few years ago and it was US made as well, but not related to either the 2.5 or 2.6 or 2.0. (Mitsu made the 2.6L)
A quick flip through the 2002 MP catalog, didn't see any intakes available, try some older numbers at the parts counter, might get lucky.

Message: "Actually" is correct. The 2.2/2.5L engines were American-designed and -made, designed by the same man who designed the slant-6 (with many similarities). These engines have been out of production for several years.
Neons have 2.0 engines, and 2.4 engines are now made. 2.4L SOHC is Mitsubishi, 2.4L DOHC is an American engine with different bore and stroke.

Message: Mopar did make a performance intake manifolds for the 2.2/2.5 the part number was P4349129 There was another manifold they made i think it was for a different carb maybe a Holly? If you can't find anything at the mopar dealers try Forward Motion (www.forwardmotioninc.com) they might be able to tell you something. Message: chrysler also had a FWD performance book on these motors, they could be ordered through the Mopar catalog. I am not sure about non turbo's, but the turbo models are a great peice. throw a 2.5 head on the 2.2 and drop the compression, then raise the boost and slap an intercooler and these things can fly.... but check out the book, they have alot of ideas for carbs and such. I know at one point they had a dual webber intake.

Message: The 2.2 and the 2.5 had the same head so there is nothing to be gained by swaping heads the early heads for these engines were different they had bigger combustion chambers among other things that is why the turbo guys like then so they can run more boost without detonation. But for a N/A engine you don't want the early heads.

Message: MP also sold the dual 2-BBL intake. P4452037. It featured long runners for maximum torque production. Used two production-style carbs.

Message: some 2.2's were made in US and others by mitsubishi... and the talon was a 2.0 DOHC, not a 2.2.
All the turbo blocks were american made. Some of the early 2.2's were mitsu ('83, '87 and probably plenty more. How do i know?? My uncle had a '83 shelby charger (non turbo, or course) and it was a mitsu make. I had a '85 shelby charger that was turbocharged and was american. My oldest brother had a '87 Lebaron and it was a 2.2.. which we replaced with a 2.5. We also had a '87 Omni that was mitsu.
6.6 Lt. Big Block, 727 TF shift kit, 452 heads, edelbrock 750 cfm, .513/.513 284/300 crower cam, comp cams springs, comp cams pushrods, 1.5 roller rockers, dp intake, mopar ignition, mopar windage tray, dual exhaust w/ 40 series flowmasters, 4.10 gears, coilover drag suspension, approx, 3500 lbs
