no matter what the shape of the "pumpkin" it does not denote the gears inside, as for the 2 different model axles that were used that year, the actual gears inside made that determination, depending on what was put in it, you could have 3.9 3.55 or 3.23 ratio. using the vin the dealer could tell you or the sticker on the body could. or you could jack up both sides of rear, put truck in nuetral, mark the driveshaft and count how many times the shaft rotates for each rev of the reat tires.
