Re:2002 Dakota Quad-cab, 4.7 lit, 4x4, SLT plus.
When the vehicle sits in the sun on warm days the temperature reading on the overhead convenience console defaults to "--F" ( "or --C"). When this occurs the snowflake button operating the air conditioning will not come on (likewise the defrost botton below the air cond. botton won't activate). After driving for a while and the temperature goes down to 90 degrees F or so the overhead convenience again displays a temperature and the air conditioning and defrost function resume normal operations. Duplicating this for the dealer takes the right weather conditions on the day I have it at the dealer which hasn't occurred yet. The dealer says the 2 systems are unrelated.
Has anybody else experienced this problem or have any ideas as to cause?
