Message: They make and sell them in Mexico - not DOT approved in the states,,or something like that. I see quite a few here in TX. Nice looking rides when done well.

Message: Yes Kind of like the one in the pic. It was the new bodystyle of the full size truck. It was sweet looking. Wish I could have taken a pic though. Thanks for the quick replys.

Message: it is in no way based on a durango, it is however built on the 94 up ram chassis and is unfortunatly for us available only on Mexico and countries south of there. There was a story in 4X4 offroad around 97/98 about they even had a few pictures of it in the magazine. the thing was definately a ram as the sheet metal was the same to the back of the doors, it was built in Mexico and on the shortbed ram frame. from what zen said it sounds as if they are still making them, i'll bet the real reason they are not selling them here is that D/C's CAFE rating, which is now currently very close to the fed minimum most likely would go under it and then the fed tax would kick in and cause the prices on all dodges to go up.

Message: The CAFE bit sounds logical; but not the sheetmetal being the same to the back of the door. I don't recall that bulge on the rear quarter on the older Ramchargers. Looks more like that design was borrowed from Durango.

Message: The one I saw last week was based on the newest body style ram from the doors up to the front bumper. Behind the front door there was a little window but it was slanted not rectangular.

Message: Someone either got creative and made their own or you saw a test rig. Dodge doesn't currently produce Ram Chargers anywhere in the world.
The pic I linked was the last Ramcharger they made in Mexico until the new body style came out at the end of 02.

Message: Ramchargers were made not only in the 70's (available with 440's through 1978), but the 80's and 90's. The last US sold behemoth was the 1993 model, so they even had Magnum power their last two years in the US. They were the "cadillac of off-road vehicles", before soccer moms decided they liked SUV's. It's the one SUV that NEVER made a headline for flipping over on the highway, and it sure as HELL is NOT an overgrown Durango. They did continue production and sales in Mexico, but I haven't kept up with it lately. Slide on over to Ramchargercentral.com for more.

Message: I'm currently on a work assignment south of the border. I see these around alot. Apparently, some of the design features like the funky rear glass was due to spare parts DC had to use up. I saw an article on this a few months ago when I was curious as well. They are not made any more. I think the last was 2002. Also only 2WD. I thought about picking one up and bringing it home for the wife when I return. It would be one of a kind, especially in North Carolina!!
