Lisa,
I'm not 100% certain of this, but it sounds like it could be the speed sensor. I've seen a few threads on this forum regarding this. Symptoms are ABS & Brake light either always on, or come on after driving a bit. Also, sometimes the speedometer won't register until you get up to 30 mph or so. If you have an "Autozone" nearby they will run a free scan for problem codes. Worth a try.
BTW, does your Ram have "rear wheel" or "4-wheel" ABS.
-If "rear wheel", there is one speed sensor on top of the differential. You can replace this yourself, but its a "dealer only" part. Just ask you local Dodge parts dept. for "Rear ABS speed sensor" should cost about $30-$40. If you have dealer do the work, they'll probably charge $100 or more.
-If "4-wheel", I think that there are two additional sensors, one for each front wheel.

Anyhow, check this thread...

Hope that this helps, let us all know how it goes!

The rear wheel speed sensor is $40 and can be changed easily.

my dakota has done that a few times as well. all i did was change the oil both times that the abs light and parking brake light were stuck on. a few miles after being driven shut them off. don't know why or how, but it worked.

I think I had that problem once before...I started towing a trailer and had installed the light harness...when I hooked up the light harness and towed the trailer a while, the brake and ABS light would come on...turned out it was blowing a fuse...I eventually installed a slightly higher rated fuse and the trouble stopped.

I just changed my brake pads today and had the same problem. I drove home going 65 or 70 and then went inside. When I went back out about an hour later and started my truck up they weren't on. So I'm not sure what exactly made them turn off but try the 30 mph thing.

The reality of this problem is it could be a multitude of things to nothing at all and just a hard code error, one time that will clear when checked by a good mechanic.

You can start with your sensors and shoot in the dark or go get it scanned for the code. I would not take it to a dealer and take it to a good mech who knows dodge and has the scan tool.

My ABS brake lt problem was a simple brake switch activated an error that was a hard code error. So everytime I started my truck and got to a certain MPH it would come on. They simply reset the code, cleared it, did nothing else and I have never had the problem again.

On the other hand I have seen the CAB unit be bad and need to be replaced. My feeling is this is a typical dealer fix and nail you to the wall type bill. Sucks.

Bottom line you need to find a trust worthy mech who is honest. The busier the mech the better.
