Subject: console swap, how to remove fold up? IP: Logged
Message: I have a buddy here at work who is willing to swap me center consoles. he removed the bolts over the weekend but couldn't get it out.
he has the flip up seat console and there is some type of whay looks like guidepins that still hold the console to the seats. does anyone know how to remove these?
I figured I'd ask as I don't want to destroy his truck pulling the console out.

Message: conig,
Check out GB2000's CarDomain Site. He's got a thread going on this board w/ a link to his site. I'm not trying to plug his site, but I saw on there that he took his center console out. I think that he removed the seats and drilled out a few rivets.

Message: I pulled mine from my 00 CC, thre were 4 bolts that held it to the brackets that are riveted to the seat frames.
After the center console was out, the only thing that showed or gave any indication of a console ever being there were those 4 brackets that protruded out from the front-inside and back-inside of each seat. Those brackets have some heavy rivets holding those to the seats but before you go grind/drill those out, make sure you cannot use them for the other console.
Your buddy your trading wtih might just want those brackets from you so he can mount it in his truck.

Message: Yeah, it's quite easy to remove it, but as Izzy said, there are some heavy rivets holding it in. In order to remove it, you have to remove your seats all together I believe. I'm trying to remember how we did it. It's much easier than it appears...I remember that much. Remove the bolts for the front of the seats and then slide them forward/tilt the seats forward and remove the bolts in back. Pull the entire assembly out and see what you need to do from there. If you drill out the rivets, wear safety glasses... I busted a drill bit while doing it and metal shards went everywhere. It takes a little effort to remove the rivets...and someone suggested on here earlier that if you ever feel the need to put it back, you could just use nuts & bolts where the rivets were. If I lost you...just remember this... it's pretty much a MUST to remove everything as one unit and detach it outside the vehicle. If you go off of that, you should be able to figure it out on your own.
Sorry I can't remember exactly how they were together...

Message: I have also removed mine, (02) but they were tach welded instead of riveted.
If your interiors are the same the simplest solution would be to swap seats as well. leave as one unit.
I have also read here, someone trying that and it was not a straigt up drop in for the center conlsole from split bench. good luck and keep us posted.

Message: They are basically a 3 piece configuation bolted together to make 1 big piece.
If you just want to remove the center console and are not worried about the brackets, you could unbolt the front brackets and tilt the seats back slightly (not too far or you'll bend the rear brackets). Tilted back you have access to the 4 bolts holding the center console in. Pull those bolts and lift the center console out of its place. OOOOOHHHHHH clean shiny carpet!!!!
Disassembling this way allows for the whole job to definately be a 1 person job. If you have a spare set of hands available then removing the whole thing bolted together is an option. Its a bit of a pain pulling the whole thing by yourself due to the steering wheel and doors that do not open all the way but it can be done. I scratched my passenger door panel pretty good pulling mine in one piece with no help. It went back in 3 pieces and bolted in piece by piece.

Message: Conig,
I just swapped seats with another dak, and the best and easiest way is to take out the whole seat as one piece. It is so much easier and faster than screwing with the rivets. Only 8 bolts to mess with.

Not in my dak...the previous owner had spilled pop all over under the console. Cleaning that up sucked...they must have spilled an entire friggin bottle of pop. lol
