Message: A relay. The relay is wired so that when you select high beams the lows get power from the relay circuit. Power from the high beams will power the 'trip' side of the relay allowing power from a fused source to flow to the low beams. You may also put an 'arm' switch in the circuit so that you can choose if/not to have lows on with the highs. Haven't done it on my Dak, but used the same set up on a few other vehicles. It works great, the light output is fantastic.

Message: FYI, you can do this with a KC Highlights relay that the company sells specifically for this, its about 9 bucks. And this also shortens the lifespan of your bulbs by 40% depending on your highbeam use.

Message: Mr.Sleepy
Just refreshed and saw your reply before my question. What would the KC kit do about fog lamps that only come on with low beam?

Message: Huh - I'm not sure what your asking but I'm going to guess. I'm assuming your asking what a KC kit could do for high beams. KC makes a kit that fudges your relay into pushing highs and lows at the same time, this kit is made to do exactly what you guys want.

Message: KCHiLites.com, do a search. You might even find it at Stylin Concepts.
As a last resort you could check the automotive/law enforcement lighting kits at www.galls.com

Message: You can have the highs and lows on at the same time for a SHORT PERIOD (pull the turn signal forward). I have seen warnings about doing this. The extra heat from the bulb will crack the plastic headlight housing.
Also, if you have a late model truck ('99 and up), do not tap into the wiring. The headlights are computer controlled and you will fry the computer.
