I have a 00 4.7 Dak 4x4 with a 5 spd manual tranny. Having problems shifting into reverse and sometimes getting stuck in 5th gear. Anybody know what the problem might be.

Well........I have a 97 3.9L 5speed. This has been well maintained by the dealer, and I have always stored it in the winter---only has 48k miles on it. I have always had a battle to get it into reverse, and the dealer says that is common. Never had any other problems at all...but about 2 weeks ago, I stopped at a RR crossing and could not get it into any gear but 5th....limped it off the tracks and to the side of the road, but then could not get it into anything but neutral. They are telling me they cannot understand what happened, but 5th gear was all "wadded" up and had to be replaced as it was putting all the other gears out of alignment. So now, I have a $1300 bill to pay to get it. I am having it fixed, but have told them that I want ALL old parts and I am going to try dispute it with Dodge. I don't care how old it is...a transmission should NOT crap out at 48k miles. You better get it checked out.

Most definitely, I don't see why a well maintained manual tranny shouldn't last the life of the vehicle or close to it, unless it's been abused.
