Subject: Crooked Dakota? IP: Logged
Message: Hi, I have an 04 FT4WD QC Dakota. I bought it a couple months ago. While driving, my wife and I both thought the truck sloped very slightly to the right (can't feel it...just kind of looked like it). Anyhow, we chalked it up to driving on crooked roads, a trick of the eye, or who knows what. Anyhow, today I washed the truck and really started looking at it. I got out the tape measure and in the front the passengers side is about 1/2 to 3/4 inch lower than the drivers side. In the rear it slopes the same way, but the difference is slightly over an inch. Does anyone know what this could be? Is it something to really worry about? I hate to take it in for service already.
Thanks,
Jim

Message: The front torsion bars can be adjusted. May bring the rear in line as well.

Message: has it always been like that or have you noticed it recently. did you by it brand new? do you take it offroad? could be a broken spring or shock.

Message: I bet if everyone measured theirs it would off somewhat. I mean really, how could it be perfect?

Atlantic Blue...I'm not that worried about it being perfect; I'm more worried that something is wrong. I don't think that's the case since it rides fine, although it does pull VERY slightly to the right. I'm not sure if that's related or not.

Message: Did you park it on a level surface to measure it ? If not parked level there will be more weight on the downhill side, so that side would be lower. A torsion bar that is off would affect the front more than the back. Vehicles tend to pull slightly to the right because most roads are crowned, best place to check that might be middle lane of a 3 lane highway. If you still think its off, I'd have them check it.

Kowalski, I measured the height differences in my driveway which is not level. But, I first measured with my truck pulled straight in to my spot, then I backed it in and repeated the measurements. Both times the passengers side was lower than the drivers side.
Also, I've been paying attention to how it pulls based on the crown of the road and it definitely does pull slightly to the right (if I'm centered over the peak of the crown). It's not enought to really bother me, but I was wondering if it's related to my "crooked" problem.
Anyhow, since my truck is sloped more in the rear than in the front, it sound's like the problem is most likely not the torsion bars. What else could it be? Leaf springs maybe? Maybe I'll just end up bringing it in to the dealer...grrrr.

Message: Torsion bar could still be part of the problem. We found I had cranked one up a little more than the other when aligning the truck after raising it. Sounds like your measuring well, I assume you checked tire pressures ?

Message: My 03 QC had the same problem when new.
Talked with the service people. They adjusted
the torsion bars. No more problem.
