Subject: Severe Vibration in my Steering IP: Logged
Message: I have a severe vibration in my steering wheel. It jerks back and forth on the slightest bump or un-even road surface. I even get the sensation when the road is completely smooth but not as much. Its almost as if something is crooked or broken and the wheels are flopping so to speak. I have rotated my tires, changed the brakes (in case of warped rotors), and had an alignment but none of this has worked. Could this some how be related to me needing shocks (I need them, but they still work at the moment)? Could this be related to my other problem of the truck bouncing out of control when hitting uneven road surfaces on the freeway at 60mph+? HELP!

Message: You need to get the front end up in the air and check every part for play and wear. It could be almost any part in there. If your shocks are worn, replace them.

Message: Did you check for a broken belt in one of the tires ? Your other problem sounds like the mismatch between stock shock valving and spring rate in an empty truck. Does it handle better with a load ? Airing down your rear tires helps when unloaded.

Message: I too have dealt with intermittent vibration problems since I bought my truck. First time it was severe, bought it to the dealership, where they found all four wheels out of balance. This got rid of about 95% of the problem but it was still there very slightly.
Second time when it came back I had them re balance the tires. This only helped a little. Finally, I was ready to live with it when one day I was using the pressure washer on my truck I hit the insides of the front wheels real hard and this elinimated the vibration pretty much completely.
Then later on I was experimenting with tire pressure and I increased it by about 1.5-2 psi above the manufacturer's recommendations, and this bought the vibration back. I took it back down to exactly 35 psi and it was goe again. Main point being, check the simplest sotutions first. Check for dirt on insides of front wheels, and make sure front tire pressures are correct as it seems like this truck is very sensitive to even small deviations in pressure.
