Subject: Help - No Spray IP: Logged
Message:
Need a hand from my Dakota friends. Driving along fine, parked, went in, came back out, cranked endlessly with no go. Got spark, but no fuel coming out of my injectors. Measure .04v coming to the injector terminals with key-on, engine-off. And only 1.06v when cranking and applying gas. I have a 1991 3.9 (pre-mag) with alot of mods. Running Autolite plat's, Accel ignition, dual Optimas, edelbrock headers, 180 t-stat, ram air, high flow muffler and cat, etc. My engine normally runs very rich, the spark plugs are now showing yellow/white making me think that this has been sneaking up on me and I didn't notice. Sound familiar to anyone? Oh, and I have already tried reseting my puter many times to no avail. Thanks!

Message: Maybe simple as BAD fuel pump.
Check pressure on fuel rails.

Message: Fuel pump checked out okay. Fuel Pressure is fine. Gen I Daks don't have fuel rails. Two Bosch injectors mounted in the throttle body.
Common, Bernd, Speedtweaks guys, somebody must know this! I'm bust!

Message: Are both the injectors not spraying? is that voltage to one or both? have you referenced any shop manuals? could be bad injectors, or tps voltage, could be lotsa things... I'd start either at a shop manual testing for bad injectors, or throttle body malfunctions... if the TPS sensor is outta wack, it could be hampering how much fuel is sprayed, ...or it could just be a simple fuel clog in the injectors.. your guess is as good as mine....

Message: Check wiring harnesses carefully , especially any
connectors involved , probably best to disconnect battery negative { ground } and undo
connector to computer - inspect for clean contacts
if ok , reconnect and then see what happens !
To check that TPS - should probably be on drivers
side of throttle body - 3 wire connector
measure from center wire to chassis with key on
battery connected - at rest [ idle ] should read
about 0.7 V DC , then to fully check , have someone slowly press on accelerator
voltage should smoothly increase to about
4.0 maybe 4.5 Volts DC
If not already checked/repaired - it may be
a good place to start with harness from
underhood fusebox to firewall ( drivers side )
should find a " splice " of about 4 wires
Inspect very closely - possible one wire NOT
making full proper contact ????
Hope all this helps,,,,,,,,,,,

Message: Just an update to help out anybody that might come across this post later with a similar problem. I had two problems double teaming me. For one I had a relay working part time. "Auto Shutdown Relay" according to the manual. The other problem was I didn't know that the computer didn't control the voltage going to the injectors but actually just controls the ground. Simple thing but really messed me up given my testing methods. Next time I will just use a simple test light instead of a multi-meter.
