Subject: timing IP: Logged
Message: I have a 1998 dakota 318 i'am having trouble with the timing(when you first start it it runs great but as soon as it warms up it wont hardly run. The computer said that the crank senor and the cam is out 30 degrees. How do you go about getting it back in time thanks greg

Message: If you havn't touched anything, start by replacing the crank sensor (because it's easy), and then the cam sensor (a pain). If the cam was really out by 30*, I don't think it would run at all.
DO NOT touch the distributor. It does not control ignition timing, it controls fuel injector timing. If you start turning it, the engine won't run worth a darn, if at all.

Message: Thanks i will try that and let you know.No i hadn't messed with the dist.The only thing that i done was to change the motor.It came out my buddy 1998 dodge ram it ran good when we took it out.The motor that was in my truck ran great until i blew a rod 4 wheeling.I just change motors and it runs good until it warms up.
