hey all. just a quick question. when i start my 04 dak 4.7L and go to leave in the morning for work or whatever, the engine sometimes gets extremely loud and sounds like its revving like mad. it lasts for about 100ft or so then quiets down to normal engine speed. this also happened with my 01 dak 4.7L as well.anyone else ever have this happen? it also happens the odd time if i am idling somewhere for too long.

That sound is not your RPM. It's the sound of the fan that is mounted on the front of the water pump. It is normal for this to happen on a cold start. It will stop (like you said) after a few seconds. The fan clutch is just engauged all the way. It is normal.
As for when you idle for a while and you hear this noise, that too is the fan clutch fully engauged to cool your motor off. Next time it happens while idleing for a while look down at your temp gauge (if equiped) and see that the temp is.
From your discription, everything sounds normal. You just have a really "good" fan clutch. You will hacve a problem if you dont hear that sound.

Ditto. Mine does it in first gear when cold, disengages the instant it hits second. Cools normally.

If it annoys you, you can pull it off, but you need some type of fan on there... I have an 01 R/T, that noise drove me nuts so I yanked it off- R/T's come with an electric fan and a thermatic/clutch fan, and the electric does well on its own. if in a traffic, I just kick on my a/c, and it automatically kicks on that elec fan.

matt, not just R/T's that come with clutch and electric fans. i may be mistaken but anything above '98 maybe has them? my'00 QC 3.9 did 'til i took the clutch off.
