Subject: Ford Guys are Gettin' Scared IP: Logged
Message: Ok, earlier today i was lookin at TheHemi.com and after linking to a couple different pages, i find myself at a Ford Trucks message board. I admit, i was a little intrigued to find out what all they were talkin about, so i scrolled through the message board to see what i would find. I couldn't believe my eyes, every other post was about dodge trucks. One was about how fast the SRT-10 Ram was and how it was beatin lightnin's in the 1/4 mile. One was about how potent the new HEMI and cummins are and another was about how these ford guys were seeing a whole lot more new Rams than new F-150's. One guy, who claimed to be a devout Blue Oval boy said that he had driven the HEMI Ram and the new F-150 and would take the Ram over the F-150 any day.
Now then, ive noticed that on Dodge message boards, no one ever even talks about other makes like ford or chevy. The only time any other cars came up is when we are makin fun of those God-forsaken ricers. I guess that just another sign of how good our trucks our, we dont have to talk about any competitors because we know ours are better.
Anyways, i guess im sayin that Dodge is obviously stirrin up the truck market and its only gonna get better with the introduction of the 6.1 HEMI and a SRT-8 dak. I cant wait to see what they are gonna have next!

Message: Will the SRT-8 be like the last generation R/T? -rwd with auto only? I think it'd make for one hell of a truck if they could make it available with 2/4wd or Awd and a 5 spd manual.
Does anyone know how much hp and torque the Dak's drivetrain can handle?

One of the most feared trucks on the road is a heavily modified
Dodge ram with a Cummins Diesel.
I have seen a Dodge Ram with a Cummins Diesel using propane
injection, ATS transmission, triple-loc torque converter spank
the living daylights out of every truck that challenged it.
Oh how much fun it is to see a 3/4 ton truck light it's tires !

Message: Search for the Bank's Dodge Dakota. It's in one of my Truck Performance magazines. It has a Bank's I-6 Diesal Motor with several Bank's mods to include two turbos & 4 fuel pumps. If I can remember after everything it had around 1100 HP & Ft/Lbs. Out on the desert it hit 212MPH and still was able to maintain 20MPG. He also later modified it to be street legal. Even street legal it had 800HP & Torque at the Rear Wheels. Diesal Motors are definately the way to go for both Power & Fuel Economy.

Message: Kind of a change of subject but I just recently beat a Ford F-150. I haven't raced in years but one night after a long 14HR day at work I pulled up to a stoplight and saw a kid driving a regular cab F-150 w/ a V8. It kind of reminded me of me in my younger days so I decided to see what he had. We left the light and I kind of eased it until I saw he was trying to race me. After realizing this and after he had half a truck on me I gased it. I hit 6 Grand for the first time in my truck in first gear. I took back his half of truck length and ended up a half of my truck length in front of him. Then after he finally shifted to second he eased back even with me. I then hit 6 Grand in second gear and was going 65MPH so I called it. By then I had gained back my half of the truck lead and would have still pulled him. After realizing he had just got spanked, he dropped back about 30 truck lengths and rode the rest of the way behind me.
I thought this was a pretty damn good race considering:
my truck most likely weighs more??? (Quad Cab Dakato 4750Lbs vs. Reg Cab F-150)
his V-8 was bigger (4.7L vs 5.4L???)
he had a manual and I had an auto
his truck was already broken in (My truck had somewhere around 3000Miles on it vs. his 96-00)
And this was also before I had any mods to my truck.
His truck year was somewhere between 96-00, what size V-8 would he have then? a 5.4?

Message: Should be a 5.4L. In my experience they only put the "Triton V8" badge on the 5.4L. Guess they're embarrased about their 4.6...

Message: first off I am not defending ford, just sharing some info. All of the ford v-8's are triton motors, so it could have been a 4.6L, the 5.4L actually has some power this year with the 3 valve heads. Ford is coming out with a 6.2L V-8 gas motor to fight the Hemi, Nissan, and Chevy. The new Lightning is supposed to have 500 hp with a supercharged, intercooled, 5.4L, like the Ford GT has.
I am just glad to see that another manufacturer is fighting back in the power, and speed departments. Chevy got passed years ago and the only thing they fight back with is an all wheel drive, extend cab, heavy, SS. Should be a good battle between Ford and Dodge.

Message: From what ive heard, the ford engine, called the "hurricane" will only have horsepower ratings in the 300s, probably 350-370, the new 6.1 hemi is supposed to have 400plus. Although, ford is gonna advertise this new engine as a "big block"

Message: According to my local Dodge Dealership, the 2005 Dodge Dakota will have the 5.7 liter Hemi in it. I have asked him on several times the past few months if he was sure about that. That most other sources that I heard from say that it isn't going to happen. He said that Dodge didn't want to make it official too soon, but his source of information came from corporate headquarters. I am not saying that it is true. That is what I have heard. I quess we will just have too wait and see. But, just imagine if it is true.

Message: I talked to the dealer guys recently and they told me that would not happen simply because that engine has too much power for what it would be put in, think about it, it has around 100 more horespower than the 360. there is no way that it would work. I think its because of insurance purposes as well as safety concerns. You know how many speeding tickets there would be because people are idiots?

Message: I really dont think that it is too much power for the dakota. the current dakota is right at 4000 pounds and the new one will just weigh more. If DC will put the 5.7 hemi in a 4000 lb Chrysler 300, why couldnt they do it for the dakota? And do the math, if they made a SRT-8 dak with the 5.7 hemi, it could reach 60 in under 6 secs, like 5.8 or 5.9! Besides, the power-to-weight ratio for a 5.7 hemi dak would be 11lbs per hp, the new 6.1 hemi in a 2500 Ram would have a power-to-weight ratio of around 12lbs per hp. So basically, they idea of a hemi dak is not too far fetched!
