Over the past weekend I went to a dealer and test
drove a 04, 2x4, 3.7 V6 and the five speed stick
shift. I must say, it had plenty of guts and that
3.7 that took the place of the 3.9 is a great
engine.
I have a 02, 4x4, 4.7 V8, five speed auto
(never again) with 22k and if there would have
been a 04, 4x4, 3.7, stick, tow package (to pull
a 26' camper) I would have traded. The dealership
got on their computers and tryed to locate one
with no luck. The factory has stopped making 04's
and gearing up for the 05's.
Try a 3.7 out.. Besides having plenty of power,
the gas mileage has to be better.

Im getting about 17mpg in my 3.7 4x4 five speed club cab. Overall there is more then enough power to get around but sometimes i have to rev it more then I would like. While i dont regret getting this truck I wish I held out since the 05 comes with a 6 speed manual.

My wife has the 3.7 in her Liberty. Great engine. Better than my 3.9 Dak. BUT...Have fun changing the oil filter!!!

I have an 04 Dak 4X2 reg cab 3.7 5 spd manual. This little truck will suprise you. Plenty of power and 20+ mpg. Much needed replacement for the 3.9. I wish it had a little more low end torque though. The oil filter is no problem.

I get 17+ MPG from my '02 quadcab, 4x2, 4.7L, V8 5-Speed. Why settle for a V6?

On my last tank mostly highway I got 17.8, mine is 4.7/V8/automatic. A V6 would have to get consistently low 20s in the same truck for me to take notice.

The 20+ mpg is an average. That is around town, sitting in traffic and some highway. I do not baby this truck. The truck currently has 2600 miles on it. I have not switched to synthetic yet. One I do the mileage should get better. I have not taken it on a trip yet so I have no idea on the highway mileage. My wife drives a durango 4.7 and the best we have seen mileage wise is 17 on the highway. My toy is a 99 Ram QC 4X4 5.9 with most of the performance fixens aside from a supercharger. I have always been a V8 fan (there is no trade off for low end torque) until the gas prices went up. My Ram needs high test and at 11.5 mpg it is just not practical for every day use. I bought this dak for running back and forth to work. I paid $13,100 on the road for it. I'm just suprised at how quick this little truck is. Don't make a judgement on this new v6 until you have driven one. Are your stock 4.7's faster??? Yes, just not as much as you think.

I have a 00 Club SLT, 4.7-5speed stick 4x2, This is one great running truck and even with the higher fuel at an average of 18.5 mpg, with a 21 mpg highway I would never buy a 6 cyl, I am thinking that this should be the last truck I would need to buy
