Subject: I HAVE BEEN TO THE PROMISE LAND IP: Logged
Message: AMEN, HALLELUJAH! I have finally seen this mythical 16-17 mpg figure of which I always heard everyone speak but which seemed so frequently to elude me. Just didn't realize itd have to be 100% highway without one single stop light to do it.
My 400 mile trip to Vermont last week:
17.5 on the trip up, steady speeds of 70-75, little hard accelaration, occasional bursts to about 80.
Tank#2: First 260 miles were steady 55-60 on curving country roads, no stop lights, very steady speeds. Next 100 miles was about 75 mph steady highway. This one came to about 17.8.
Tank3: All balls to the wall, steady 85-90, frequent heavy throttle, still managed 16.3. All in all I was very happy with my Dak and glad to see mpg figures of over 14.5 for the first time since owning it. Yeah, I know, if I wanted mileage I shoulda gotten something other than a truck, but after never even touching 15mpg in every day driving when everybody else always seems to be talking about 16 and above as the norm, it was nice to see that the truck is capable of some decent mileage.
And as if that weren't enough, I found an abandoned construction site up in Vermont and got to see what the Dak is capable of off road. All I can say is, I can't believe the amount of fun I was missing out on driving a 2wd pickup for 5 years.

And I get as high as 22 m.p.g with my 98 RAM 2500 with a
Cummins Diesel !
Dodge needs to put a small 4-cyl Cummins engine in the Dakota
so that we can all afford to drive one.
Or how about the 5-cyl Mercedes that the Sprinter van uses ?

Message: I've gotten over 20 mpg before with my 02 4x2 4.7/auto 3.55 LSD... and that was the tailgate up and no tonneau cover. Heck, I get 16 in town fairly often. Not trying to rub it in. Glad you finally got to se the Promised Land! :-)
