Subject: 4.10 rear diff....... IP: Logged
Message: I currently have the 3.55 in mine. I stopped by a local 4x4 shop to see if I could get 3.91 (roughly). I got all the numbers off the front and rear diffs. I've got a 8.25 rear and (at the time) an unknown front (Could be Chrysler or Dana). I went to the deal to see, the report they printed said " Front Differential Size?" So I crawled under the truck, again, and found that it was a Dana. So the verdict is now I can only get a 4.10, no 3.90 (or 3.91/3.92). I've had a 4.10 in an old Chevy and it was a monster puller, but I don't know about the streetability of the Dak...didn't matter in the Chevy, it had a '76 Olds rocket 350 and a 400 turbo tranny....any suggestions?

Message: You should have a Dana 35 front. Cant believe you (not you personally) actually got a 8.25 rear in a 4x4. It was my understanding rom Dodge that the regular duty 2wd had 8.25's and the towing pkg 2wd and all 4x4's had the 9.25. That is how the 2000's are. Any rate, the only thing out in aftermarket gears is the 4.10 for the front dana 35. I have done a ton of research on this looking for 3.90, .91, .92's to replace my 3.55's and finally found out that for 2000 up the Daks now have a Chrysler 8 inch front instead of the Dana 35.

Message: Hawkeye/Boomer- Have you tried posting an offer to trade even with another Dak owner your 3:55's for front and rear 3:92's.There has got to be somebody out there who got 3:92's and would rather have better gas mileage than a little more punch? Then you both only need to have them removed and installed,if you can do it yourself your cost is zero.Win Win.

Message: Hey Hawkeye.......were those 3.90's for the Dana? If so where do you find them? The 4x4 shop already told me that he can find the 3.90 for the rear, just not the front.

Message: Boomer, those are for mine with the new 8 inch front. All I could find for tha Dana 35 front was the 4.10's. Was going to get them when I found out that the 2000 and up Daks have the 8 inch front and all that I can find or it is the 3.90. The 3.90, 3.91, and 3.92 are all really the same. The 3.92's from Dodge area $1000 for the front and rear. Randy's Ring and Pinion has the oem gears for $500 or so for the front and rear with the mini install kits and free shipping.

Message: Hawkeye.......... I just ordered 3.73's fron Randy's today. I specifially asked them if it was for the Dak and it will fit our Dana 35. The gears plus master install kit was $645 total. It should be here Friday. The 3.73's are the same as the majority of GM and it's what the Viper runs, and many other Muscle Cars, it allows for lots of pull from the line as well as top end, much better than the 3.55 for pull and 3.90 for top end.

Message: Boomer, Cool deal. I didnt know they had 3.73's available for the 97-99 daks. I never really asked before. The 3.73's are a good compromise between the 3.55 adn the 3.90's. Please keep us posted on how the install goes.
