I currently own a 00 QC and am thinking of trading it in for a 04 club cab, dealer is offering a great price. My question is, are there any outstanding issues/problems with the 04's (such as ball joints, rotors, etc.) that I should be aware of. Thanks.

Why not wait for the 2005 truck it's just a coupl months away?
Ball joints and front brake rotors. I have owned a 2000QC & 2002QC both had issues.

I think it's still too early to know if there are any problems that affect alot of the 04's. Generally, though, Dodge can't seem to get steering and suspension systems right, so I would think the 05's are going to have these problems too. If I were you, I'd hold off until the 05's come out. If you've already been in this truck for the past 4 years, you're probably tired of it by now. Do you really want to be in the same truck for another 4 years? Plus, there's going to be alot of newly designed trucks in 05--an all new Tacoma and Frontier, a new Honda SUT, and Mitsubishi is coming out with a new truck built off the Dakota platform.

The new 05's look will take some getting used to, but I think eventually it'll catch on. When the 02 Rams came out I didn't particularly care for them much... thought the previous ones were better... but now... I love the Rams... they're the toughest looking truck on the road (the Nissan Titan is a very close second!)
At any rate, all things considered I think the 05 Daks are going to be overall better trucks. My 02 is still in fine shape so I'm not in the market... but maybe in a couple of years I'll look into an 06 Quad Cab 4x4 Dak. We'll see...
Of course, something to consider is that I'll bet DC won't be giving $4500 back on the new 05s come September!!!! :-) So now may indeed be the time to snatch up an 04 if cost is a consideration (and when isn't it?)! :-)

You can bet there won't be any rebates on 2005's for a while. The '05's will be larger and heavier; 2.7" wider/ 3.7" longer.

Personally I'd love the 05's IF they came with a regular cab option...I'm not a big fan of the club cabs.

Get the '04. Never buy a vehicle in its first year of redesign. They always need a couple of years for foolish buyers to help find the problems.

I love my 04. I got an invite to go see the 05's at mt dealership in about a month so i guess i will get to kick the tires on some pre-release marketing models.
And yes the 04 has an overhead console, mine does i have the SLT+ with option package H. For the most part that means Fully loaded. I dont think the sports and lower option packages come with the console, but you can add it for a small fee.

i think people will start to come around to the looks of the new dakotas. First off, photos never do a car justice. When the new durangos came out, from the pics, i thought they were butt ugly too, but now that i have seen several in person, i think they look really good.
i have seen the new dak in person at the ATL Intn'l autoshow, and i admit its not the most pleasing design, but it definately looked better in person. i believe that when people finally see it on the road, they will change their minds on its looks, maybe even begin to like them.
most new designs take some time to get used to, and if they dont, then the manufacturer didnt change them enough to have a successful redesign.

Saw a new 04 Durango yesterday... heh. I like the old body style. Looks to me like an old person's hillbilly station wagon/minivan. Seriously...it looks like a minivan/wagon on a truck chassis with big tires and a big engine.
