I'm looking at red regular cab. It's a 4x4 and is equipt with the newer 3.7L V6 (225?) mated to a NV3500 transmission (manuel). I'm just wondering what the AVG MPG would be for a truck like this?
I like the 318 and 287 OHC motors that power our Dakotas but I need something for now that dosn't suck up the gas in the city. My 96 modle dakota gets great milage on the HWY (18) but only 13 in the city.
I know that the exuast not on any V6 truck sucks but does this new engine provide better off the line power than the older V6 it replaced?

Yeah, its a much better motor than the smaller 239 and even has more spuck to it.

Yes it does make more sence to move down the a V6 if you not going to pull or use your truck heavly.

It just depends what the differnce in fuel economy is to me. If theres just a 20% increase on the hwy then I say scew it. Just buy a 4.7L reg cab and make it a 2x4 truck. You should be getting over 18 MPG.

I just wonder what the price for oil is these days. Seems like Opec is going to raise production but even so it would be while before you see a big decreace in price. Also if the price per barrel goes from $40 to $28 then your going to have to weight untill a month for the tanker to pull up to the dock here in America to be unloaded and the processed.
Now back to the subject.
I think I have made my mind up for now. I just might look a the Toyota Tacoma becuase Toyota seem to be going in the right direction with V6 Technology. Its rated at 250 HP and 275FTBLS of toruqe. But I'm sure the fuel economy might be even better than the 3.7V6 in the Dakota.
Just have to weight and see.

Is Toyota offering a $3500 rebate. I just bought an 04 SXT Reg Cab 3.7 5sp man trans. I got it for $13,100 OTR. This little truck has plenty of power and get 20+ average mpg.

Talk about a stripped down little truck. But I will admit the price sure sounds right. Also, you cant beat that 5 speed!

Z - The thing is not completely stripped. The SXT package comes with AC, CD player, Bucket seats, carpet, 16X8" rims with 255 tires and a free bed liner (will be replaced with a Linex). No it does not have power windows, power locks, tilt or cruise. It listed for $17080. On my deal I got all but $40 of the dealer hold back. I have since replaced the chrome grille with a body colored one. Great truck for basic transportation.
